I'm leaving saturday for a week to Meaux, France. I'm going camping with 4 of my friends, and I'm really excited for it. We're definately going to visit Paris for a day as we are really close by the city, and further...We're not sure yet, but we'll for sure have a blast.
Talk to you all, soon!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15317792300616098592noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1010724304066108174.post-50772952793650849922013-07-25T22:11:00.001+02:002013-07-25T22:11:22.861+02:00Color Run @ ZwolleYou would say that summer holidays allow me to blog more, but I've found myself less behind my laptop than when I don't have holidays, for the very simple reason that I already spend so much time behind it for my studies. Anyway, I'm back with a little update on the Color Run in which I participated in the city of Zwolle on the 7th of July. For those who don't know the Color Run is a colourful running event for a good cause.

I have to say we had a very good time, even though it was about 30 degrees celcius, so it was a bit too warm to run the full 5k. Secretly, the most fun part was travelling back by train for nearly 4 hours, all covered in the bright coloured dust. The looks we got from bypassers....hihi. Below one of the promotion videos so you get an idea of what the day looked like!

Despicable Me 2

I tried to look up a sypnosis for this movie, I'm not sure if there actually is one. Anyway, those who have seen the first movie or any of the trailers will probably no what it is about, or not, because most of the trailer just feature the awesome minions! The movie is about Gru this time trying to save the world, of course together with his minions.

The movie was in 3D and honestly I'm not that big of a fan
of 3D but with animation movies it usually works. It definately worked
for this movie as well. I saw the first one in 3D as well and it just as
much worked for this one.

When me and two friends arrived at the cinema, we noticed we were a little older than the average age of visitors, ah well. We actually went as a last minute decision on our first day of holidays (the two friends I went with had their last exam two hours earlier) and it was a good call.

We laughed: A LOT. It was funny to see how some parts that are featured in so many commercials were actually there (like from commercials for Chiquita Bananas). I have a feeling this is not going to be a very extensive review, because all I want to say about this are: MINIONS. They are just awesome and are the very core of the movie, no matter that the kids of Gru are really cute too.

The part where we maybe laughed the loudest was the credits, weird huh? There you have these three minions "auditioning" for the movie, just all minion awesomeness in a few minutes.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15317792300616098592noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1010724304066108174.post-43450376369001647652013-07-09T19:59:00.003+02:002013-07-09T19:59:44.900+02:00Winner of the Angels for Positive Women give-a-wayJust popping in to announce the winner of the give-a-way for Positive Women. This year,
like every other, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city of

What
the Magicians' Guild has long dreaded has finally come to pass. There
is someone outside their ranks who possesses a raw power beyond
imagining, an untrained mage who must be found and schooled before she
destroys herself and her city with a force she cannot yet control.

The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan is the first book in "The Black Magician Triology". However, there is a prequel to it, which is basically a history book. That book, The Magician's Apprentice, I reviewed last year here. As for The Magicians Guild, I would give it 4/5 Stars.

The first time I read a book by Trudi Canavan I was already blown away by her writing style. She can describe things into rather detail, but still making vivid and interesting. The world she created for this fantasy serie is amazing. It is not fantasy in the sense of dragons and mythical creatures, but does have magic included in a new and own way.

At some points in the story you can notice that this is the first book of the series, because it takes fairly long before the real action starts let's say. I can't tell too much about it, because I don't want to spoil the storyline for those who haven't read it yet, but are still planning to.

The characters are great though. And I'm excited to see more of them in the other books. I especially liked the character of Rothen, who isn't actually a main character until halfway through the book, but he has his flaws, but still sshows to be one of the better characters. I'm also very curious to see where the story of Sonea and Cery is going to (btw don't you just love the names?).

All with all, action wise not the most exciting book yet, but very well written, good plot building and I'm excited to spend more time with these characters as the series progress. I'm one of the million. Are you?

Positive Women is a charity that supports the women and children of Swaziland. I've come to known the charity via their ambassador, Joseph Morgan as he happens to be my favourite actor. He has already put forward great work for the charity and raised a lot of money for it so far. When a little while back one of my best friends Annelie set up Angels for Positive Women I immediately joined the boat to raise money for Positive Women.

She is selling these great Guardian Angels that you can see on the picture above. They are great to use as keychains or as a bead on a necklace or a bracelet. She also sells them together with a nice bracelet already. The Angels and bracelets are available in different colours.

Now obviously, I'm going to ask you to have a look at the website and if you like them, to order one for the good cause. Shipping is done to everywhere in the world, just have a look at the website how you can order them. Also, if you want more information about the charity itself have a look at the website of Positive Women, their Twitter and their Facebook page.

I've already ordered my own bracelet and will be sure to show it here once I collect it from her. But, I also want to grant one to any of you guys. I will pay for the little Guardian Angel that you can win in the give-a-way, so the proceeds will go to Positive Women. The give-a-way will run uptil the beginning of next week. When you win you get to chose the colour you prefer (of the available stock), out of the Guardian Angels below. So all there is left to do is participate in the give-a-way in the Rafflecopter below, and do please spread the word so we can raise as much money as possible for Positive Women. Thank you!

Welcome to the 19th stop of the 'Perfect Clouds YA Virtual Book Tour', presenting Perfect Glass by Laura Anderson Kurk and Swimming Through Clouds by Rajdeep Paulus. Be ready for a lot of epicness below. Of course I'll tell you what the books are about (and how amazingly awesome they are), you will also find the new post it and hidden letter for those who are collecting those for the final revel AND of course there is an awesome-tastic give-a-way at the end!

Perfect Glass by Laura Anderson Kurk

Things get messy when Meg Kavanagh
gets involved—first with Jo Russell, the eccentric old artist, and then
with Quinn O’Neill, the intriguing loner who can’t hide how he feels
about Meg. Her senior year isn’t turning out like she planned it, but
sometimes the best parts of life happen in the in-between moments. And
Henry will be home soon, right?

He commits to one year in an
orphanage that needs him more than he ever dreamed. Thousands of miles
from Meg and the new punk who has fallen for her, and absent from the
ranch that’s in his blood, Henry Whitmire finds out what it means to
trust. When you’re so far from home, it’s terrifying to realize you’re
not who you thought. But the perfect glass of calamity makes the best
mirror.

An identity crisis, long distance
love, new temptation, and growing pains teach Henry and Meg how to hang
onto each other and to what really matters.

Perfect Glass is the sequal to Glass Girl, which was a very beautiful and emotional read. I'm currently actually reading Perfect Glass and so far it is topping everything the first book already did. I'm in for about 3/4 by now and I already shed tears. Honestly, Laura knows how to write her heart breaking, heart shattering scenes.

Behind the Scenes - College applications
In Perfect Glass, Meg is stressed out about her college application. Her heart is set on the University of Wyoming, because that’s where Henry will be. She’s found that the glaring hole in her application is her lack of volunteerism.
These days, you can be academically unblemished and still be turned down by universities. It all seems so arbitrary to me.
Here, in quick, easy, checklist form, are some qualities that elite universities say they look for in the well-rounded candidate. This is “character” through the eyes of admissions officers—
1. Public Service. “We’re trying to find people who make others around them better,” says William Fitzsimmons, dean of Admissions at Harvard.
2. (H)umanity and three-dimensionality. Also by Fitzsimmons at Harvard.
3. Having strong endorsement letters. Must I even say this is Harvard again?
4. Being inquisitive. Students who “step up beyond the received wisdom of Lady Gaga and actually think about what she says,” are ideal for the University of Rochester, according to Jonathan Burdick, dean of Admissions.
5. Being authentic. Mark Spencer, dean of Admissions at Brandeis University, said, “A young woman told me her dad called her weird. She stated it. She accepted it. And she kind of liked it.”
6. Being comfortable answering “kooky questions.” The panel discussing the ideal candidate all agreed on this one. The ideal student is one who is comfortable and free enough to be totally real.
I think what admissions officers are trying to say is that they’re looking for students who understand how to think critically and act globally. Both Meg and Henry take these things to heart in Perfect Glass and in helping others they change their own lives, as well.

Swimming Through Clouds by Rajdeep Paulus

I live in the in
between. Between what if and what is. It’s how I manage. It’s the only
way I know. Everyone has their way. This is mine.

When high
school, cell phone disruption forces a classroom ban, the words on a
Post-it note spark a sticky romance between two unlikely friends.
Transfer student Talia Vanderbilt has one goal at her new school: to
blend in with the walls. Lagan Desai, basketball captain and mathlete,
would do just about anything to befriend the new girl. One Post-it note
at a time, Lagan persuades Talia to peel back her heart, slowly
revealing her treasure chest of pain—an absent mother, a bedridden
brother, and an abusive father. In a world where hurt is inevitable, the
two teens search for a safe place to weather the storms of life.
Together.

I also love listening to piano music when writing stories. It is easier to get inspired by this kind of music than songs that have lyrics in them, for the simple reason that I start listening (and sometimes sing along) to the lyrics and get distracted from what I was actually doing.

I recently came by the composition below, "Unspoken". It is from a fellow writer whom I've gotten to know via Go Teen Writers. Leah is only 17 years old and composed and played this piece herself. The first time I heard it I was totally awed by it. Isn't it gorgeous? If you want to know more on the inspiration for this piece, have a look at her blog.
When I started reading this book I had no expectations, mostly because I had never read anything from Rajdeep Paulus before and the book is quite different from what I usually read, but I was excited to start on it nonetheless. And I did not regret it.

The book shows you bit by bit how Talia's life is, and that is far from perfect. You get to peel the layers off as she shows Lagan small bits of herself and as she juggles her life to be kept in balance, as far as possible. We get introduced to her brother who has at least the amount of problems Talia has in keeping his life together and then we have Talia's father. A Dutch South-African man, who is far from what he appears to be. The great impact he has on Talia's and her brother's life and the impact he had on their mother's life is revealed word by word, chapter by chapter.

Like I said, I wasn't too sure about the book, because it is totally different from what I usually read, but it was definately a very enjoyable read. Mostly a very emotional read actually. It deals with family problems beyond the point you would never wish anyone, really not even your biggest foe, in life, but sadly do happen in certain ways to people.

It has been a couple of days now since I've finished the book, but I'm still quite overthrown by it, but don't want to spoil the immense intense parts in the book, because that is what it makes it so truly fascinating. So if it does sound like your type of book, do get a copy of the e-book!

For those who are quite done with me rambling about The Vampire Diaries, this is your time to run away ;) Like I mentioned before, last weekend I have spend the weekend in Germany with my two friend Yasmine and Annelie to visit 'Insurgence Germany' a Vampire Diaries conventions. As you can see above the guests were (from left to right) Sebastian Roché (aka Mikael Mikaelson), Nathaniel Buzolic (aka Kol Mikaelson), Matt Davis (aka Alaric Saltzman), Candice Accola (aka Caroline Forbes), Michael Trevino (aka Tyler Lockwood) and Kat Graham (aka Bonnie Bennet).

One way or the other I'm going to try and not write everything down here what I've written in my little notebook, because then I'm probably still writing by the time it's midnight. Anyway if anyone still has any questions or anything afterwards, sound off in the comments and I would love to tell you more. Also if you want to do me a favour and would love to see such a convention again in Germany, do please like like this page to show the organisation we are definately game for another one!

I was fairly busy beforehand, so when it was finally friday it hit me that I was leaving for Germany that day. I had a class in the morning and would catch the bus to Aachen straight after. Several busses, trains and 8 hours later I arrived in Bad Wildungen where the convention was held. Besides eating and catching up with Yasmine and Annelie, I didn't do much. There was a party that evening, but we were scattered from travelling and decided to call it a day early on.

Saturday morning is where the fun really started. We were at the hotel a little after 7. This was because I couldn't make registration on friday so I had to queue in the morning to get my registration done in time and to buy the photo opps that I still wanted. That all arranged, the weekend really started. We started off with the panel of Sebastian Roché (aka Papa Originale, that's what he liked to call himself). He was quite of a dancer, or that is what he tried to convince us of, dancing on "Single Ladies". No really, the guy is amazing and hilarious. I think he could have done a full one-man show and no-one would have been bored at all! After his panel we immediately had our photo taken with him, which turned out quite hilarious after asking for a photo "pulling weird faces".

When we returned in the main hall after the photoshoot, Michael Trevino was doing his panel. I asked him the question who, as Tyler Lockwood, he would "kiss, marry, kill" out of Elena, Caroline and Bonnie. After a long thought he settled for kiss Bonnie, marry Caroline and kill Elena.

After Michael's panel it was time to get our photo taken with Matt Davis. He's such a sweet guy and I absolutely adore my "hug photo" I've go taken with him (oh and damn, he's really tall too!). We managed to catch a small part of Nate's panel after this, where I asked him how he enjoyed Amsterdam last year. He said he really enjoyed it and that he had a great experience when he jumped on a boat with a friend and only halfway through found out that the boat was near to sinking and the Polish owner had probably been smoking something too strong, hihi.

We had our Candice & Nate photos taken after this. Candice is such a sweet girl, but rather shy too I would say. Nonetheless I love the picture I've got with her. Nate is just up for anything I would say when it comes to taking photos, it was really awesome to watch. In the end my friend and I settled for a photo where it looks like we are fighting over who gets the guy. Nate's expression is priceless.

Next up (after lunch) were our photos with Michael and with Kat. Both very lovely people. Kat can even be said to be a little crazy, hehe. Nearly last for that day was a small group panel with all the guests on stage. Best panel of the weekend I would say. The highlights were definately when Michael immitated how Joseph Morgan walks and when Sebastian compared the long blond locks of Joseph (in a flashback episode) to Candice's hair.

The last of the day were the autograph sessions. On saturday we just got our Matt & Michael autographs, because they were only there on saturday. The rest of the autographs we collected on sunday. This evening we did attend the party for a bit, but unfortunately it wasn't all too crowded so we left again after an hour being there. Also, because we had in mind to get out early on sunday morning.

How early we got up on sunday morning? The alarm sounded at 5:30 AM and we were at the hotel a little after 6:00. This only to get the coffee lounges we were hoping for so much, a CL with Nate and one with Candice and we secured both so you can imagine we were really, really happy.
The coffee lounge with Candice was also the first activity we had that day. She's such a sweetheart. She spend the first part first asking us about where we were from and how we all met and all. She loved to hear how some of us had gotten to know each other online or only saw each other with conventions like this. She also talked a little about her engagement and how she had started on looking for venues for her wedding. It was very lovely and almost felt like friends talking amongst each other.

Nate's coffee lounge was up next and that was a totally different deal, haha. First of all it was more busy and Nate is more outgoing as well. He told amazing stories about things that happened on set (how he nearly hit Ian with a broken baseball bat and how he smashed an actual beer bottle instead of a prop), stories of how he grew up and chased his dreams (I came close to tears a couple of times here, really), about his tattoos and much more. The highlight probably for me was after I had told him how emotional I had gotten when his character got killed of on the show and he asked me why that was the case. When I told him it was because of the family bond that is so strong throughout the Original family, he told how important family is to him and how those bonds, just like with friends, should be the strongest in life (another moment of welling eyes). Besides that, it was also adorable to see how flabergasted he was when everyone told him how much they spend on these kind of conventions. I really don't think he had expected those answers. In order to make up, he hugged us all at the end of the coffee lounge. Since he got back to that a couple of times during his next panel, I have the feeling it almost bothered him that we spend so much.

After Nate's coffee lounge it was time for his panel. A part of it was about End It Movement, which I'll do a blog about soon, so stay tuned for that. As awesome and emotional as his coffee lounge was, the same goes for his panel. He added on more beautiful stories as well as very funny ones. I asked him the same marry, kiss, kill question I asked Michael and he answered with kiss Caroline, marry Bonnie and kill Elena. (I see a trend here with the kill Elena thing). I could seriously ramble on about this panel for many more lines, but I'll cut it off here for now. If anyone wants to hear more, let me know haha.

The panel of Kat & Candice was up next. The girls were so lovely together. Annelie asked there what their favourite song was to dance on. Candice said it was "All for you" by Janet Jackson and Kat answered the crazier the better. It was just a very relaxed and lovely panel with the girls sharing stories. Highlight was probably when Kat asked what we would change about the convention and her epic reactions to the suggestions of "Klaroline" and "Klefan". After their panel we received the autograph of Kat.

Sebastian's panel was the last panel of the day, which was just as hilarious and funny as the one on saturday. He had received this hand knitted doll which he had nicknamed "Smallbastian" and half of the panel he pretended as if the doll was him and that the doll had to answer the questions. There is no way to not love this guy (and to totally crack up). Nate also crashed his panel at the end with a few questions, which was awesome as well.

The last before the 8 hour journey home would start again, was the autograph session, where we received our autographs from Nate, Sebastian and Candice. Nate signed my photo with 'ello Poppet, because we gave him a tiny Captain Sparrow because he loves Jack Sparrow so much. After this it was time for us to head back to our hotel (by cab, because it was raining like hell), grab our luggage and go back home. All with all it was a fabulous weekend!

I'm back from Germany from the Vampire Diaries convention. Alright I've been back since early monday morning, but I've been swamped with catching up with work ever since. I'll promise to write a blog about it soon, but it takes quite some time to compile that one, so bear with me. In the mean time, check out the trailer below of the movie The Philosophers. Seriously, this movie looks sooo good!
Of course there is clubbing, and going out for a musical or a bite at a restaurant at night in London, but that is not what I wanted to talk about actually during this blog. At one point during my internship one of my co-workers and I received free tickets for one of the bus tours and we did that at the end of the afternoon. We had planned to do it much earlier, but due to work circumstances it was late afternoon by the time we hopped on and that being in March, darkness set in quickly. What we saw wasn't what we had expected, as we had expected to see not much at all, but let me tell you this Westminster Pier by night is even more gorgeous than it already is by daytime. I get that it is a little more difficult to catch this sight now that it daylight is staying around longer, but if you get the chance to see it, definately do visit.
This week I added a new piece of jewelry to my merchandise collection. This on top of the collection I already have. For those who hadn't recognized it yet, it's the medallion featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean. I bought it via Film Jewels in case anyone was wondering. The necklace is super light and that is definately a plus for me, cause I have a likewise necklace with an amulet on it, which is quite heavy and it isn' too nice to weary when it's warm weather therefore. So I'm definately happy with this new piece to my collection.
These books are:

Dreamless by Josephine Angelini

The magician's guild by Trudi Canavan

Captives by Jill Williamson

The first two I received as birthday presents from friends, the latter I bough myself recently. Dreamless is the sequel to Starcrossed, a book that took a whole new point of view regarding the Greek mythodology, loved it. The Magician's guild is officially the first one in its series, but I've read the prequel to it already 'The Magician's apprentice'. The third book, Captives, is the first one in its series too and will be the first book I'm reading from Jill. Below you can find the descriptions on the three books, any of them you would like to read or have read already perhaps?

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, like at all. I don't know what it is, but his acting has never been that phenomenal to me. However, his acting in his most recent movies was more appealing to me and since I really wanted to see 'The Great Gatsby' I decided to see it in cinema anyway, despite of the main role for Leonardo. And I was more than glad that I saw it in the cinema.

Let me first of all come back to the point of 'not liking Leonardo's acting' a lot. He did well in this movie, though in the beginning I struggeled a little with how believable he was as Gatsby. The accent just didn't do it for me at all. But I got used to it and the more was revealed about Gatsby, the more I appreaciated Leonardo's writing. He did well for me.

The story line of the movie is great, the sypnosis above doesn't even do justice to how well thought out the story is. I haven't read the book, but I can guess they adapted it quite well. The characters all have something interesting to them and you just love to hate them or hate to love them (and that changes back and forth all the time). I don't want to spoil the plot for those who don't know it yet, but there are some shocking moments in there that I absolute did not see coming. The turning point in the movie left me gasping for breath, jumping out of my set of a frigthning sound and then well, then it just left me sobbing. It's fabulous, you won't be dissapointed.

I saw the movie in 3D which beforehand I wasn't too pleased about, but it was the only option in the city I'm living. Throughout the movie it didn't bother me all too much that it was in 3D, but then again it didn't add too much either. With some of the famous parties of Gatsby, it had a nice extra effect with all the glitter and flapper going on. But besides that, I don't think you miss a lot if you would watch it in 2D. A few weeks back I did a blog post about the autographs I've collected so far (read here). I mentioned there that soon I will be attending another convention, namely Insurgence Germany (people use both names, it can be confusing now and then) and I thought to give you guys a little teaser of what is going to happen there. For those who get excited about it via this post, there are still (day)tickets available here.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm brabbling about, Insurgence Germany is a fan convetion for the TV serie 'The Vampire Diaries'. (Yes that serie again, sorry guys!) It is taking place in Bad Wildungen, Germany at the hotel Maritim Hotel Bad Wildungen and the dates are from the 7th until the 9th of June. Now that is said, let me tell you which amazing guests will all attend (subject to their work commitments):

Matt Davis - Alaric Saltzman
Candice Accola - Caroline Forbes
Daniel Gillies - Elijah Mikaelson
Nathaniel Buzolic - Kol Mikaelson
Sebastian Roche - Mikael Mikaelson
Michael Trevino - Tyler Lockwood
Zach Roerig - Matt Donovan
Kat Graham - Bonnie Bennett

I think secretly (or not so) I'm most looking forward to seeing Daniel Gillies. He's an amazing actor (check out Saving Hope if you haven't already), but besides that he's such a goof in interviews/panels always as well. But further on, I'm looking forward to all of them honestly. I'll opt for an autograph of all of them (most of them are included in the price anyway only Zach and Kat aren't) and a photo with all of them, besides Nate as I have already one from last year. This time The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet by Stephanie Morrill.
Ellie Sweet is a lot of
things—good girl, novelist, silent adorer of the new boy at school,
Palmer. But when “outcast” gets added to the list, she decides it’s time
to take reality into her own hands … and tweak it as needed.
In
the pages of her book, she’s Lady Gabrielle, favorite of the medieval
Italian court. Her once-friends are reduced to catty ladies-in-waiting,
and the too-charming Palmer—who in real life never spares her a second
word—gets to be nothing more than a rake wracked by unrequited love for
her. She even has a perfect real-life villain in the brooding Chase, who
hails from the wrong side of town.
But just when she’s getting
along great in her fictional world, the real one throws her a few
curves. With Chase pursuing her, Palmer wanting to date her—but in
secret—and the details of her manuscript going public, Ellie suddenly
receives more attention than she ever really wanted. And when her
former-friends discover what she’s been writing, they’re determined to
teach Ellie a lesson about the severe consequences of using her pen as
her sword.

The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet was the first book of Stephanie Morrill
that I've read and I definately liked it. The book shares the life of
teen author Ellie who regularly escapes her life by writing a better
version of it.

The first thing that I really liked about this
book was that it was so easy to relate to. It might be because I like
writing myself, but definately also because Stephanie made Ellie or any
of the characters so easily relatable. For me Ellie was parts of: the
more studying type, less outgoing and loves writing, but even if that is
not hundread percent you there are enough other characters in the book
that will relate to you or someone you konw. They feel real!

The
book includes some great references as well! What do you think about: "I
turn away and bury my burning face in my math book. Now would be a
really good time for the rapture." I know, awesome right?

For the (teen)writers amongst you, this book has something extra: a lot of tips, suggestions and encouragement, you'll love it.

The
only thing I could point out as something I like less, was that it took
rather long for the rest to find out about Ellie's writing life. As it
is part of the backcover copy of the book, I would have expected to play
a bigger role in the book. It felt a little bit like it was rounded off
too quickly. But besides that, it was a great book.

4/5 STARS

A post where I show you guys my dear autographs that I've collected over the last few years from celebrities. I've collected them all in personal, which makes them so much more special for myself. The craziness started in 2011 when I visited my first premiere and first convention. (If you click on the pictures they'll enlarge. They are all photos from photos so some of the quality might have gone lost.)
My very first celebrity autograph and from no-one less than Helena Bonham-Carter. I got my notebook signed during the final London premiere of Harry Potter. I slept at Trafalgar Square for one night with friends in order to actually have a spot alongside the red carpet. We got pretty close to it, but me and a few friends stayed back at the fountains instead of mingeling amongst all the pushing people at 5 o'clock in the morning. I know a few people who actually managed to get about 10 autographs, but that wasn't worth it for me as I actually wanted to enjoy everything as well and we had an amazing view from where we stood.

That same week I went to the London Film and Comic Con (2011), which was my very first convention. We went for the Harry Potter/Twilight actors. Left Stanislav Ianevski (Harry Potter), right top Devon Murray (Harry Potter), right middle Charlie Bewley (Twilight) and right bottom Jessie Cave (Harry Potter). I still can go giddy over seeing these autographs. I love how Devon and Stanislav wrote a Harry Potter like message along with it. Meeting Charlie Bewley was quite extraordinary. He was the first one that day that we've met and there was no row at all! Me and my friend were all nervous going up to him, cause back then we were massive Twilight fans, but he was so nice and there was no reason at all to be nervous about it. We talked for quite a few minutes with him about really random topics (living with your parents, surfing vs sitting at a desk at the convention), it was awesome. Funny fact: back then I adored the autograph cause I was such a fan of Twilight, by now I adore it cause he did such an amazing job in 'Like Crazy' and 'The Vampire Diaries'.
Last year (2012) when I was in London for my internship I decided to pay a visit to the Hunger Games premiere. I was actually quite lucky, because I arrived only 3 hours before it started due to work and I went home with 4 out of 6 autographs. Left top Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games) right top, left bottom Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games) and right bottom Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games). The two I missed out on (of the Hunger Games actors) were Toby Jones and Josh Hutcherson, but I did see both pass by.

I guess I can count this as my very first large convention, at least one that was dedicated to one topic. In june (2012) I attended Insurgence4 in Birmingham. I'll try to keep this part short, cause if you guys let me I'll ramble on for hours about this experience. It was a full weekend of guest talks, photoshoots and autographs. The autographs above are Steven R. Mcqueen, Nathaniel Buzolic, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Malese Jow and Claire Holt. Honestly, this was really, really awesome and this year I'm attending a likewise convention from the same organisers, but then in Germany. I'll blog about it soon and I'll definately blog about it once I'm back!

My last convention so far was the London Film and Comic Con 2012. Most of the guests were (fairly) unknown for me, but I had to get autograhps of Holly Marie Combs and Brian Krause, childhood Charmed memories! I got a picture with Holly at the signing table as well, but unfortunately not with Brian because it was too busy. However the friend I was with managed to capture the moment on her camera where he gave me a hug, so that's pretty awesome too!

This is as far as my autographs go at the moment, like I said I'll be attending another convention this year so I'll be able to extend my collection even further. I kept the descriptions of the events quite short (or I tried to), but if you would like to know some more about any of the events, let me know!
Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
Finally a new blog post about London. My last one was on coffee places in town, which can be found here. This time it's about Alternative Tours and like the name itself says, it's a bit different from those standard bus tours. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to try them out myself as I only found out about it a week before I had to leave. However, the next time I'm in London I definately want to go on one of these tours, cause they sound fantastic and I've heard loads of good about it.

The Alternative London Walking Tour
This is our original tour which was established to showcase East London's incredible creativity whilst giving insights into important historical and cultural events that have made the area what it is today.
Even though this is much more than just a London street art tour, you are guaranteed to see a huge range of artwork from around forty artists per tour. Street art by nature constantly changes, which in turn means that our tours also change and evolve on a very regular basis. This guarantees that a tour with us will always feel fresh.

They do have two other walking tours as well, namely a market tour and a pub tour and they also have several biking tours, but the Alternative Walking tour is the one that really seems interesting to me. I would love to see some of the street art and actually be told a little about it as I would have no clue myself half of the time what I would be exactly looking at. You can find more information on their website and for a small impression, have a look at the video below. Let me know if these kind of tours would be something that would interest you.
Hi Jennifer. Thank you for being here today. The kick off of the ‘Between These Lines’ blog tour, great! For those who haven’t read the book yet, can you tell them a little about it?
BETWEEN THESE LINES is primarily about a class assignment that forces popular girl Evie Cunningham to befriend one of the school’s “invisible”, Chase Mitman, with deadly results. It’s an emotional story focusing on the social agenda of students at a preparatory high school and the impact it has on their lives. BETWEEN THESE LINES offers a haunting reminder that sometimes the person you think you know the most is the one you know the least—and sometimes, that person is yourself.

Between the Lines isn’t your first book, but it is your first that isn’t connected to your book Angel Star. How did you come up with the idea for this book?
It’s a story that brewed in the back of my head for a long time. I wanted to write something more contemporary, edgier, grittier . . . but something with a profound twist to it (*coughs . . . the end*). It was inspired by the song DIARY OF JANE by Breaking Benjamin.
And how different is it from your previous three books Angel Star, Lemniscate and The Bliss?
I veered away from a more fantastical plot: the subject of angels. Ironically, there is an underlying theme of good vs bad in this book too. Good kids, bad kids, right group, wrong group . . . peer pressure . . .

Are any of the characters of Between These Lines more dear to you than others? Or do you value them all just as much?
I value all the characters I create, but I have to say my heart belongs to Chase Mitman. He’s such a tortured soul and yet so strong. He’s scarred in more ways than one, especially on the outside and finds a solid comfort in Evie Cunningham, who is beautiful but emotionally scarred on the inside.

When you write your books, whether it is Between These Lines or the books of Angel Star, are they full fiction or do you use things from your environment and/or yourself?
They’re mostly invented by me, but I do throw a few realistic elements into the mix. For example the deteriorated church in the woods in ANGEL STAR is based on a small chapel in a neighboring town. The prep school in BETWEEN THESE LINES is modeled after a private school in my area as well. Of course the layout, courses, names and whatnot are all fictitious.

The last, but definitely not least question, what is up next?
What’s next?
Lots! I’m sitting on an announcement of sorts but waiting for the green light, and I’m writing two novels right now: a YA Horror that takes place in an insane asylum, and a Middle Grade fantasy.
