Book Review #14: It's Complicated

There’s a reason Facebook has the relationship status, “It’s Complicated.” Follow four college roommates, Claire, Palmer, Hannah and Kat as they maneuver crushes, confusion, and the crisis when pushy boys go too far. Complicated as it is, these four friends will pull through, guided by the strength of their friendship and the power of God’s love.
For fans of… The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Series
Damaged by Melody Carlson
The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

The first book to review from Playlist Fiction. It's complicated is a story about love, crisis in life and best friends forever. 3.5 out of 5 stars. NON-SPOILER REVIEW
The book starts with where we meet, and where they meet each other, the four soon-to-be roomies: Claire, Palmer, Hannah and Kat. After meeting them and each other, we jump into their holidays where the story really kicks off.

I liked the pace the book has. It covers the story, but you are not endlessly lingering at a certain scene. We get chapters from the POV's of all 4 girls which is really nice as well. That way you get to know them one by one, instead of just one if it would have had only one POV. Definately a plus! There are scenes within the book that can make you laugh and swoon, but also cry, desperately cry. Some of the scenes are really that heart-breaking, I still feel for them.

In the book there is a role for religion and god. I'm not religious myself, but I can still very much appreciate the way it was written into the story. It's not the main element, but it is still present and shown that it is something important for the girls. Done in a very beautiful way.

The reason it has 4 stars (or well 3.5 if that was an option) is that I would have loved a little more background. We get the explanation of all that happens in the book, which is done very very well, but sometimes I had hoped to get a little bit more into depth information. But hey, I'm definately not going to complain here, the book was really good and very easily to relate to I would say. And since this is the first book of the series, who knows what we might find out in the next installment.

  6. Not really the kind of book that I would read, even though girly books can be fun from time to time.
