Despicable Me 2

I tried to look up a sypnosis for this movie, I'm not sure if there actually is one. Anyway, those who have seen the first movie or any of the trailers will probably no what it is about, or not, because most of the trailer just feature the awesome minions! The movie is about Gru this time trying to save the world, of course together with his minions.

The movie was in 3D and honestly I'm not that big of a fan of 3D but with animation movies it usually works. It definately worked for this movie as well. I saw the first one in 3D as well and it just as much worked for this one.

When me and two friends arrived at the cinema, we noticed we were a little older than the average age of visitors, ah well. We actually went as a last minute decision on our first day of holidays (the two friends I went with had their last exam two hours earlier) and it was a good call.

We laughed: A LOT. It was funny to see how some parts that are featured in so many commercials were actually there (like from commercials for Chiquita Bananas). I have a feeling this is not going to be a very extensive review, because all I want to say about this are: MINIONS. They are just awesome and are the very core of the movie, no matter that the kids of Gru are really cute too.

The part where we maybe laughed the loudest was the credits, weird huh? There you have these three minions "auditioning" for the movie, just all minion awesomeness in a few minutes.

Back home & The Philosophers trailer

Hi guys! I'm back from Germany from the Vampire Diaries convention. Alright I've been back since early monday morning, but I've been swamped with catching up with work ever since. I'll promise to write a blog about it soon, but it takes quite some time to compile that one, so bear with me. In the mean time, check out the trailer below of the movie The Philosophers. Merchandise: Potc amulet

This week I added a new piece of jewelry to my merchandise collection. This on top of the collection I already have. For those who hadn't recognized it yet, it's the medallion featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean. I bought it via Film Jewels in case anyone was wondering. The necklace is super light and that is definately a plus for me, cause I have a likewise necklace with an amulet on it, which is quite heavy and it isn' too nice to weary when it's warm weather therefore. So I'm definately happy with this new piece to my collection.

Oh and I've also connected the site finally to BlogLovin (see sidebar on the right for the follow button), since GFC appearantly is going to stop, please follow the blog through BlogLovin as well.

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. 

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, like at all. I don't know what it is, but his acting has never been that phenomenal to me. However, his acting in his most recent movies was more appealing to me and since I really wanted to see 'The Great Gatsby' I decided to see it in cinema anyway, despite of the main role for Leonardo. And I was more than glad that I saw it in the cinema.

Autograph Adventures

I've been planning to do this post for a long time already, but now it is finally here. A post where I show you guys my dear autographs that I've collected over the last few years from celebrities. I've collected them all in personal, which makes them so much more special for myself. The craziness started in 2011 when I visited my first premiere and first convention. (If you click on the pictures they'll enlarge. They are all photos from photos so some of the quality might have gone lost.)

My very first celebrity autograph and from no-one less than Helena Bonham-Carter. I got my notebook signed during the final London premiere of Harry Potter. I slept at Trafalgar Square for one night with friends in order to actually have a spot alongside the red carpet. We got pretty close to it, but me and a few friends stayed back at the fountains instead of mingeling amongst all the pushing people at 5 o'clock in the morning. I know a few people who actually managed to get about 10 autographs, but that wasn't worth it for me as I actually wanted to enjoy everything as well and we had an amazing view from where we stood.

Movie Review: The Host

When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

I went into the movie without too much expectations, as besides one trailer and a few photos I hadn't seen much else. I had read the book though, but since it has been a fair amount of years back since I've read it, I couldn't exactly remember anymore what was about to happen, though I knew how the rough storyline was. And that might have been good thing. REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK.

Must see movie release this month: The Host

A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race's mission of taking over the Earth, "Wanda" (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans. 

Movie Review: Pitch Perfect

Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

Movie Review: Angels Crest

Angels Crest is a community at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, where local news is rarely interesting and nearly everyone knows one another. Ethan is a young man in his early twenties who was once involved with Cindy; it's common knowledge that Cindy has a serious drinking problem, and the responsibility of looking after their three-year-old son usually falls to Ethan. While out on a fishing trip on a snowy day, Ethan leaves the boy alone in his car for a few minutes; when Ethan returns, his son has somehow gotten away.

Friends, Movies & Snow

Last weekend (friday, saturday, sunday) I spend the weekend over at a friend's house, at Annelie. Hence, the reason why my blog was a little quiet over the past weekend. Anyway, it was a lovely weekend, one for the simple reason that we don't see each other that often and two because we are just two utterly crazy (fan)girls when we're together.

Now what did we do over the weekend? First thing that had to be done was catching up on the newest episode of The Vampire Diaries, but unlike last time that she came over to me, we didn't actually linger the rest of the weekend on TVD episodes ;). But we did spend a good time on watching movies, namely Pitch Perfect, Hugo and Angels Crest (Reviews to be expected soon). Furthermore we went into town, where I only bought one book, nothing more, wooh! We also shot a couple of photos for new blog posts for both of our blogs, so stay tuned.

All and all it was a really lovely weekend, and a great start for my one week holidays, before my new semester starts on the 18th again. As for the snow part. A little less happy about the foresight of having a lot of snow again, but it turned out to be less snow than predicted at least.

BAFTA's 2013

The BAFTA's 2013 were awarded last night, and it just deserved a blog. I had hoped to see a few more movies actually of the BAFTA's nominees, but hardly succeeded due to not enough time or simply because the movies aren't shown here in the theaters yet. I'm desperate to see 'Silver Linings Playbook', 'Life of Pi' and 'Anna Karenina'. The first one is still not out here in cinema, the latter two are, but unfortunately I still haven't seen them (Anyone in for movies any time soon?). And now that I know that all three actually won BAFTA's, I want to see them even more desperately. I did see 'Les Misérables' (Review here) though, and I have to say the awards are more than deserved!

Besides the actual awards, I always love to browse through pictures of arrivals afterwards to have a look at all the dresses that were worn for the show. Show let's talk fashion, shall we? Here are a few of my favourites. Any personal favorites of any of you?

Trailer of Revelation (Short movie directed by Joseph Morgan)

I know that most of you know by now that I'm a major fan of and fascinated by Joseph Morgan, so let's skip that part. Over the last year Joseph Morgan has been working on a short film called 'Revelation', starring Persia White. I have to admit short movies from Joseph are usually a bit eehm disturbing, so I wouldn't advice to watch the trailer by night (even by day light it scared me). He tweeted a couple of times that he is entering it for festivals and therefore not able to show the full short yet (it will be about 10 minutes), but he did release the trailer last sunday so I felt like sharing it with you all. As said it is quite a scare, but it looks really good in my opinion!

Movie review: What to expect whe you're expecting

My love for TV/Movie related jewelry

I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to TV-series/movies, admitted, nothing wrong with that right? And with that love for series and movies comes a love for merchandise of it. I'm not a fan of the screaming t-shirts (well as a sleeping shirt maybe yes) and the like, more the subtle things of which I know what it is and those who know the show/movie will know it as well, but it won't be screaming to the rest of the world: look what I love! There is nothing wrong with people that do love it, don't get me wrong, it is just not my kind of thing.

As the title of this post already betrayed, I do love jewelry that has something to do with TV-series or movies that I love, so here is the blogpost of me showing you guys the (still a little small) collection. (Sorry for the photos, I'm not good with making photos when I only have artificial light)

A must see for everyone: Ben Hur

Ben Hur is a gut-wrenching, action-packed drama about the struggle between the Roman Empire and its occupied territory, Judaea. Two lifelong friends, Ben Hur and Messala, are caught in an awful moment of history that puts them on opposite sides of a war for Judaea’s national identity - and tests their characters to the maximum.

Those who know me a little and recognize him from the DVD cover above, will know why I initially have watched Ben Hur, but believe me there is more to it.

I watched the Mini Serie of Ben Hur somewhere during my internship in London last year, after Annelie recommended it to me. And recently I've watched it again. Like I said, the first reason for me to watch, was that the lead role is for Joseph Morgan and as a fan of his acting I was curious to see it. I have to admit, Joseph did an amazing job in playing Judah Ben Hur. He played out the passion, loss, pain, revange, love, the many emotions that come by in a very touching way. Further also a lot of praise for Emily VanCamp and Ray Winstone in particular, but for the other actors as well.

For those who might wonder if it is to cruel to watch, I thought it wasn't and I can't stand cruelty all too well. The scenes are there yes, but they are either screened in such a way that you don't actually see it or it isn't put out there in such a detail, however, still the cruelty of what was going on in the Roman Empire is still there. It didn't comprise on making it prettier than it was.

The only real minor point for me was the ending, I won't go into detail why that was dissapointing you will have to see it for yourself, but that was the only thing that didn't do it for me. Furthermore, beautiful and haunting story at the same time and portraited by amazing actors.

Did anyone of you see it before or is planning on seeing it some time?

The Bourne Legacy

Yes, Bourne is back! Alright not Jason Bourne, the main character of the first three movies, but finally there is a new Bourne movie. The Bourne Legacy centers around Aaron Cross and Marta Shearing.
I've been doing my best to find a proper plot summary for this movie, but I guess the movie is just too hard to explain in a few sentences as it is a runner up from already three movies that aren't the most straight forward. It is good to know that the movie takes places during the story line of The Bourne Ultimatum, a few parts from that movie have been used in this one to clarify when in the story it all takes place.

I have always liked the movies, though I have to admit that in the beginning I had really no clue what exactly was going on and had to see the first movie a second time to grasp everything. That made me prepared for this movie as this one isn't straight forward either. The story has been put together very well again, some mind twists you really don't see coming and a very very open ending. Like, because that means there probably will be another one (there are about 6 more books), but on the other hand I hate open endings.

Anyway, I don't want to go into too much detail as I don't want to spoil the movie for those who still want to see it. Did any of you already see it and what were your thoughts about it? Or maybe still longing to see it?
